Simply Architects completed the architectural designs for this single storey side extension in Finsbury Park, North London. A side return extension is the perfect choice for a mid-terraced house in London, with the dead space down the side of the house being given a new lease of life that adds value to the property.
For this property, our clients wanted to do something slightly different to the norm. With the side extension, they wanted to only extend into the side portion of their garden in the back quarter of their house. They wanted to create a small courtyard area in between the new extension and the living room of the existing house. This is a creative and alternative way to keep garden space but extend the kitchen segment of their home – and our architects were thrilled to produce the plans for them.
The architectural plans were handed over to our construction teams at Simply Extend, who completed this project to a high standard. Following the plans created by our architects, the teams installed VELUX skylights in the extension to increase the amount of natural light entering the room. The skylights, along with the custom glazing, glass door and rear bifold doors allow plenty of natural light into the room. By having the small courtyard to the side of their property, they have light coming through to the kitchen space from casement windows looking out onto the courtyard.
